The Uttarkashi District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued an important safety direction for trekking and mountaineering teams currently operating in the district’s high Himalayan areas.
According to an official letter dated 27 September 2026, continuous rainfall and snowfall are being reported in the district. The administration has noted that more than 5 feet of snowfall is expected in some high-altitude areas, along with the possibility of avalanches. In view of these conditions, authorities have directed that trekking and mountaineering teams in the high Himalayan region should be brought back safely.
The advisory has been communicated to concerned authorities and organisations, including the Gangotri National Park, District Tourism Development Officer, Forest Department and Indian Mountaineering Foundation, for necessary action.

All Trekup India Treks and Trekkers Are Safe
Following the latest advisory issued by the Uttarkashi District Disaster Management Authority regarding heavy rainfall, snowfall and the possibility of avalanches in certain high Himalayan areas, Trekup India confirms that all our ongoing trekking groups and trekkers are safe.
Trekup India is closely monitoring the weather and local conditions and is conducting treks strictly as per the prevailing safety conditions and scheduled plans.
The official Uttarkashi advisory highlights concerns particularly for teams operating in the high Himalayan areas, where snowfall of more than 5 feet and the possibility of avalanches have been indicated.
High-Altitude Treks Affected by the Current Conditions
Due to their higher altitude and exposure to the current Himalayan weather conditions, the following Trekup India treks are the ones affected:
- Bali Pass Trek
- Rupin Pass Trek
- Buran Ghati Trek
- Gaumukh Tapovan Trek
These routes reach significantly higher elevations, where heavy snowfall and changing mountain conditions require additional caution. Trek operations on these routes are being handled according to prevailing conditions and safety requirements.
Other Trekup India Treks Continue Safely
Apart from the above high-altitude routes, Har Ki Dun and our mid-altitude treks are currently running safely as per schedule.
Our trek teams remain in coordination with ground staff and are monitoring local weather and route conditions throughout the trek.
Safety Remains Our First Priority
At Trekup India, the safety of our trekkers, trek leaders and support teams remains our highest priority. We will continue to assess conditions on the ground and make operational decisions based on weather, route conditions and official local advisories.
Trekkers with upcoming departures are advised to stay connected with the Trekup India team for the latest updates regarding their particular trek.
Trekup India Update: All Trekup India trekkers and active groups are safe. Treks are being conducted according to the prevailing conditions and scheduled safety protocols. High-altitude routes including Bali Pass, Rupin Pass, Buran Ghati and Gaumukh Tapovan are the routes currently affected by the conditions, while Har Ki Dun and mid-altitude treks continue to operate safely as per schedule.
Important Note
Mountain weather can change rapidly. Trek routes and schedules may be modified whenever required based on actual ground conditions and official instructions. Trekkers should follow directions from their trek leaders and the Trekup India operations team at all times.
What Trekkers Should Know
