Nestled within Nepal’s Lower Khumbu region lies the Pikey Peak Trek; an newly discovered gem offering breath-taking vistas of iconic mountains such as Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu and Makalu. Experienced trekkers of Pikey Peak know it to be an amazing view, even Sir Edmund Hillary once described as one of its greatest points of attraction. Beyond its majestic mountains, this trek also gives visitors an insight into the beautiful landscapes and rich cultural traditions of the Sherpa people, whose warm hospitality makes every encounter unforgettable. Being relatively new and off-the-beaten-path trek makes the Pikey Peak Trek an excellent option for peaceful trekking adventures with minimal crowding or hassle.
The Pikey Peak Trek provides an easier trek than many others leading to views of Everest. While there may be some uphill sections, no special skills are necessary; beginners can complete this trek in four to five days, reaching 4,065 meters. Due to lessened foot traffic on this trek, accommodation at tea houses on this route can be more basic compared to more popular routes such as the Everest Base Camp Trek. The 9-day Pikey Peak Trek begins with an enjoyable journey from Kathmandu to Dhap Bazaar, passing beautiful forests, rice paddies and rivers along its route. Following an overnight stay in Dhap, trekking begins, offering sights of the Numbur Himal range and the charming village of Japre, providing glimpses of Everest, as well as visiting a small monastery in Japre. From here the path ascends through verdant knoll at Bhulbhule with verdant forests filled with Rhododendron-filled forests to Pikey Base Camp; upon reaching Pikey Peak you’ll witness breathtaking sunrise views of Everest, Kanchenjunga Manaslu and Dhaulagiri before finally disembarking back at Lamjura Danda where your journey concludes. As your guide, you will travel along a route through fields and woodlands leading from Taktor to Junbesi; both Sherpa communities feature monasteries and sacred Buddhist structures. After arriving in Phaplu, you will experience Sherpa traditions and cuisine before returning to Kathmandu. Our team is passionate about providing an amazing journey; reservations for 2025 are currently open, enabling us to customize this extraordinary trek according to your timetable, financial plan, preferences, or any necessary modifications to the itinerary. Your journey to Pikey Peak begins today as you travel from Sigane to Sigane along a newly constructed road still under development, before continuing your trek onwards to Jhapre, at 2920 meters altitude, offering breathtaking vistas of Everest and Numbur Himal towering above a deep valley. In Jhapre, you can also discover charming Buddhist monasteries and stupas that you will have time to explore during this leg. After exploring, spend the night here resting and preparing for what lies ahead in Jhapre before continuing onto the next leg of your adventure!
After departing Jhapre, you will ascend a green ridge at Bhulbhule for breathtaking vistas of the Everest range. At Bhulbhule, our direction turned right towards Pikey Peak via a fork in the trek that led us right. Along this way we discovered numerous mani stones and ancient yak dwellings as well as meandering through picturesque forest below Taklung Danda which boasts blooming rhododendron trees during spring months – it should take roughly two hours until we reach Pikey Peak Base Camp!
Your Pikey Peak trek reaches its climax today with breathtaking mountain vistas and sunrise atop Thamserku (6623m). Also, take in breathtaking peaks such as Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri before their stunning appearance! To witness them properly, an early start is essential and ascend from Base Camp along its western side before dawn breaks on Thamserku Peak – with spectacular sunrise views at its summit! To witness it properly the route is clear – ascending from Base Camp along its western side before ascending its western side to Thamserku itself – providing breathtaking panoramic Himalayan range views that feature iconic peaks such as Everest Kanchenjunga Lhotse Makalu Annapurna Dhaulagiri among many more iconic mountains that dominate its surroundings – making for unforgettable sights when sunrise arrives over Thamserku Peak today’s scenic journey.
As you take in the breathtaking sights, you will descend through a pine forest towards Base Camp and breathe crisp and gentle air as you ascend an elevation of 3600 meters. After spending an enjoyable time here, continue to Lamjura to relax and acclimate yourself to its high-altitude environment for one more night. Start your day right and head through the forest, crossing grassy fields before arriving in Taktor village for your midday meal. Continue along a broad dirt path to Junbesi – an idyllic village boasting an eye-catching Buddhist Stupa and charming teahouses adorned with Tibetan monasteries such as Thuptenchholing Monastery, where predominantly female monks reside – for lunch before continuing onto Junbesi for a scenic trek and overnight lodge stay in this picturesque community.
After breakfast, your trek will commence along the Pikey Peak Trek which follows Junbesi Khola river until reaching a sturdy steel bridge at Beni Ghat and crossing it takes you onto an easy trek leading directly to Phaplu. While here you will sample local cuisine, sample traditional beverages, and take part in vibrant Sherpa cultural celebrations before staying in a nearby accommodation for the night.
