Trekup India stepping in the Unexplored Trekking Trails in the Kumaon Himalayas of Uttarakhand

What does it truly take to open a new trekking route in the Himalayas?

Beyond breathtaking landscapes and scenic photographs lies a world of ground exploration, risk assessment, and meticulous planning. In 2nd Week of April 2026, Trekup India founder  / Director Mr. Preetam Singh Rawat successfully completed a detailed exploratory recce mission in the Kumaon region, with the vision of opening new, untouched trekking trails for modern adventurers seeking raw and authentic Himalayan experiences.

This initiative is not just about discovering routes, it is about creating safe, sustainable, and well-documented Himalayan adventure for trekkers from around the globe.

Purpose Behind the Recce Mission of Ranthan Kharak, Namik Glaciers

The primary goal of this expedition was to identify and evaluate previously unexplored trekking corridors that have never been accessed by commercial trekking groups, yet hold immense potential for responsible adventure tourism.

Unlike conventional routes, these trails require deeper assessment of terrain stability, logistics feasibility, and emergency preparedness before being introduced to trekkers.

Main Focus Areas of our management in this recce!

During the recce mission, our Director and the team focused on critical safety and operational parameters to ensure that every future trekking experience is secure, structured, and well-supported.

Emergency & Safety Infrastructure

  • Identification of safe evacuation and rescue points
  • Assessment of terrain for emergency response access
  • Evaluation of risk-prone zones along the route

Water Sources & Campsite Mapping

  • Locating reliable natural water sources
  • Identifying safe and sustainable camping grounds
  • Ensuring minimal environmental impact at each campsite

Acclimatisation Route Planning

  • Designing gradual altitude gain profiles
  • Mapping resting points for proper acclimatisation
  • Reducing risks associated with high-altitude exposure

Local Support & Logistics Assessment

  • Evaluating availability of local support systems
  • Understanding terrain-based logistical challenges
  • Planning sustainable integration with local communities

A Commitment to Responsible Trek Development

At Trekup India, every new trail is developed with a clear philosophy:

“A trek is not introduced to trekkers until it is proven safe, sustainable, and logistically viable.” This hands-on approach ensures that both experienced trekkers and first-time adventurers can explore the Himalayas with complete confidence and professional support. Each route is carefully assessed and verified before being opened to commercial groups, ensuring a balance between adventure, safety, and environmental responsibility.
