Day Wise Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Bagdogra (446 ft) - Darjeeling (6700 Ft.) by Surface 70 Kms approx 3-4 Hrs

Today on arrival at Bagdogra Airport, met and received by a company representative and proceeded to drive to Darjeeling. enroute stop to lunch at a local restaurant (On direct pay). Traveling from Bagdogra to Darjeeling presents a picturesque route along meandering mountain paths, verdant tea plantations, and delightful hill towns. While there may be some obstacles like narrow roads and congestion, the stunning vistas and cultural encounters make the trip unforgettable and worthwhile.  

Darjeeling,  At an altitude of approximately 6,700 feet, the town is situated in a picturesque location. The community is diverse and includes Nepali, Tibetan, Bengali, and Lepcha populations, all of which enhance the town’s cultural landscape. Darjeeling is also renowned for its abundance of historical landmarks that provide a glimpse into its rich colonial history and cultural heritage. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an iconic symbol of the town’s history and a popular tourist attraction. A charming town nestled in the Indian Himalayas presents tourists with a blend of breathtaking landscapes, diverse cultures, and historical allure. Travelers can discover verdant tea plantations, and immerse themselves in the lively local traditions, Renowned for its iconic sights, friendly welcome, and delicious food. 

On arrival in Darjeeling Check into the booked accommodation, rest of the time for self-exploring the local market, followed by an overnight stay followed by dinner at the hotel.

Today we will start early morning from our accommodation around 0300 Hrs and drive to Tiger Hill is well-known for its breathtaking views of the sunrise over the Himalayas, showcasing Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga. Thereafter we drive back to our hotel for freshenup and enjoy breakfast, later on, we will drive to visit  Ghoom Monastery, one of the oldest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in Darjeeling, which features a large statue of Maitreya Buddha. From here we make our way to visit Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park is a sanctuary for endangered Himalayan wildlife such as red pandas and snow leopards. Additionally, the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, established by Tenzing Norgay, offers mountaineering classes and houses an Everest Museum. Thereafter enjoy lunch at some of the famous local restaurants (On direct pay), From here we make our way to visit the Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Center in Darjeeling, where visitors can observe the resourcefulness and artistry of the Tibetan refugee community firsthand. Founded in 1959, the center offers a glimpse into the lives and hardships of the refugees, showcasing their traditional crafts such as carpets and woodwork. Also visit a small museum located within the center documents the Tibetan exile experience, serving as a moving reminder of their tenacity and the cultural richness they have brought to Darjeeling.  Late afternoon, we will also visit  Tukvar Tea Estate in Darjeeling, one can delve into the world of tea cultivation and production, immersing oneself in the process from seed to sip. A guided tour of the gardens offers a unique opportunity to witness tea plucking firsthand, followed by an educational experience on processing techniques. Thereafter driver back to Darjeeling and Explore the local Chowrasta Market.

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and thereafter we start with our drive from Darjeeling to Pelling, maximizing your day’s potential. Experience the splendor of the Himalayan foothills’ picturesque scenery during your drive. Make a brief stop at Teesta Bazaar to stretch your legs and marvel at the Teesta River’s beauty. Proceed on your journey, passing through quaint towns and villages. At the Border area of Darjeeling and Sikkim, we will stop at Sikkim Police Chek post to verify our Inner Line Permits before entering into state of Sikkim.  We arrive in Pelling by evening Check into your accommodations and unwind following your travels. Spend the evening discovering the local markets or leisurely stroll around Pelling.

Today morning after breakfast, we will check out from the hotel and thereafter we will first drive to visit Khecheopalri Lake is a place of great spiritual significance for both Buddhists and Hindus. The lake’s crystal-clear waters and serene surroundings make it an ideal spot for meditation, nature walks, and birdwatching. From here we drive to visit Sikkim’s Pemayangtse Monastery a 17th-century architectural marvel that boasts intricate murals and a peaceful atmosphere. The monastery is one of the oldest and most significant in the region, offering visitors a glimpse into Sikkim’s rich history. From here we move to the Rabdentse Ruins, you’ll find the remnants of the former capital of the Kingdom of Sikkim, nestled in a dense forest. The ruins provide a fascinating insight into the region’s royal past, with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Later we drive toward Rumtek on arrival check into the accommodation, rest of the evening at leisure. 

Rumtek Monastery, located near Gangtok in Sikkim, is a significant Tibetan Buddhist site, serving as the main monastery of the Karma Kagyu lineage outside Tibet. Established in the 1960s, it features traditional Tibetan architecture and hosts daily prayers and rituals. Set amidst lush hills with stunning views, Rumtek is a hub for Buddhist learning and cultural preservation, attracting visitors seeking spiritual serenity and cultural immersion.

Wake to the beautiful Himalayan morning, enjoy a delicious breakfast at the Resort, Thereafter we will drive to visit  Rumtek Monastery, also known as the Dharma Chakra Centre, which holds great significance as a Tibetan Buddhist monastery. As the seat of the Karmapa Lama, it represents the Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery’s traditional Tibetan architecture is embellished with intricate designs and vibrant murals, reflecting the spiritual essence of Tibetan Buddhism. The Golden Stupa, housing relics of the 16th Karmapa, is revered by pilgrims. The monastery’s interior features prayer halls adorned with statues, thangka paintings, and ceremonial artifacts, providing spaces for meditation and religious rituals. Surrounded by lush greenery, the monastery offers breathtaking views, creating a tranquil atmosphere for contemplation and spiritual reflection. Have an opportunity to meet and interact with the monks and learn about their daily life routine, At the monastery we also visit the Block printing sector and study block printing techniques. Thereafter we proceed our drive towards Gangtok enroute we visit Do Drul Chorten Stupa, a significant stupa in Sikkim known for its grand size. Appreciate the beautiful golden apex and detailed decorations as you enjoy the serene atmosphere created by the nearby prayer wheels. Also, Explore the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology to learn about the deep-rooted history and traditions of Tibet. View a diverse array of Tibetan relics, ancient texts, and intricate thangka artworks on display. Continue drive to the main town of Gangtok, check into your accommodation, and rest of the time at leisure, free for your activities.

Today morning enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the accommodation, thereafter we will proceed to Explore the Capital town of Sikkim,  depending on weather we will witness the breathtaking beauty of the Eastern Himalayas at Tashi Viewpoint, where you can witness a stunning sunrise or sunset over the snow-capped peaks. On clear days, the majestic Kanchenjunga mountain range is visible, creating a truly awe-inspiring sight. From here we will also visit  Ganesh Tok and Hanuman Tok, two scenic viewpoints that offer magnificent views of the Himalayas and Gangtok town. These viewpoints also feature small temples dedicated to Lord Ganesh and Lord Hanuman, where you can pay your respects. Finally, head to Enchey Monastery, a serene Buddhist monastery nestled amidst lush greenery, which offers panoramic views of Gangtok and the surrounding mountains from its hilltop location. How to Reach Bagdogra/Siliguri?

By Air: Bagdogra Airport (IXB) is the closest airport to Bagdogra town and offers flights for both domestic and limited international routes. Flights to Bagdogra Airport can be booked from major cities such as Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Guwahati. Upon arrival, travellers can opt to hire a taxi or utilize pre-paid taxi services to reach their final destination in Bagdogra or continue their journey to Darjeeling or Sikkim.

By Train: Traveling by train the closest significant railway station to Bagdogra is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP). NJP has good connectivity with major cities in India like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, and Guwahati. Upon arriving at NJP, you can opt for a taxi or local bus to get to Bagdogra, which is around 10-15 kilometres from the station.

 

By Road: Siliguri is a key town in West Bengal and 11 kilometres from Bagdogra. To travel between the two places, you have the option to use a taxi or bus or rent a private car from Siliguri. The road network from Siliguri connects well with different cities and towns in West Bengal and nearby states.
